What is sporting clays? Sporting clays is a shotgun sport where you shoot at clay targets launched from machines to simulate birds and animals in flight. Courses are set in natural terrain with varied station layouts — it's often called "golf with a shotgun."

What should I bring? A shotgun (12ga is standard), shells (plan on ~125 for the main event plus extras if shooting side events), hearing protection, and eye protection. Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots and dress in layers — courses are outdoors and Colorado weather changes quickly.

What about the side events? Each club offers additional events such as 20ga, 28ga, Super Sporting, and True Pair. You'll need the matching gauge gun and shells to participate. You can pick up side events when you register on Scorechaser.

Is this a competition? Yes, but the atmosphere is relaxed and charity-focused. Shooters are grouped by skill level — NSCA card-carrying members shoot in their normal class, and everyone else registers as "Hunter" (the non-member group).

I've never shot before — can I still come? Absolutely. If you're a first-timer, bring a friend who can give you pointers, or ask at the registration desk and someone will be happy to help get you started.
