Yes! You can absolutely just shoot for fun.
bucklechallenge.org has all the latest information.
No! The three separate 100-target shoots will get progressively more challenging. Each shoot is an NSCA Registered Shoot, open to Hunter Class (non-members) . New and beginner shooters are welcome!
The opening event at Silver Creek on July 19th will be the best chance for high scores. The second event at Colorado Clays on August 23rd will be more difficult. And the third event at Kiowa on September 20th will have some harder targets. All three of the 100-target events will carry the same weight with regard to qualifying for the Belt Buckle Championship shoot-off, which will take place on September 20th after lunch and the Live Auction in the 5-stand arena at Kiowa.
A nonprofit summer camp for kids fighting cancer and their brothers & sisters, free to families since 1992. The counselors and medical staff are all volunteers!
Costs are up this year, including lunch ($25), targets ($50), venue & equipment rentals, insurance, marketing, fees (from the IRS, NSCA, the State of Colorado, ScoreChaser, etc.). Heck, even flyers and banners cost more! The entire Advisory Board is composed of volunteers, and the new lithium battery Golf Cart was donated by Ramos Law. No profit is built into the registration cost for individual shooters; all proceeds donated to Cmap Wapiyapi will be generated from Sponsorships and the Live Auction.
Yes! Camp Wapiyapi is an IRS-designated 501-c-3 nonprofit. So is The Belt Buckle Challenge Series!
Right after lunch and the Auction (with the Sweepstakes Golf Cart giveaway) at Kiowa on September 20th, 2025.
Individual registration entry fees are not tax deductible because the entry fees are priced at 'break even' compared to the cost of hosting the event.
The IRS does not allow a tax deduction for entry fees that are priced at or below the value received. Any additional donation made over/above the entry fee is tax deductible!
Sponsored squad fees can be expensed by the sponsor as a marketing expense or as a donation (Belt Buckle Challenge is a 501c3). Ask your tax advisor for details.
Individual shooters can request amenities and make squadding requests when they register on ScoreChaser, but these are not the same as Sponsored Squads. To register your Sponsored Squad, Call Dr. Bruce Evans, 303-803-4792.
September 20th at Kiowa (3rd and final event in the 3-shoot series event) during lunch.
$35 is non-refundable if you need to cancel before the date shoot, since venue rental, food catering and other contracts still need to be paid. "No Show" on the day of the event means no refund, because there is no way to fill your spot.
Yes! As a Squad Sponsor, you can designate up to 5 shooters per squad per event from your business, (partners, employees, VIP clients, vendors). Please do not recruit a "fantasy football" squad from outside your business - the honor system applies.
The Sponsored Squad that wins the Belt Buckle Championship Shoot-off on 9/20/25 will be awarded belt buckles, (maximum five buckles).
ScoreChaser registration for Individual shooters is now open, (you can request amenities and squad mates, which are not the same as Sponsored Squads). Individual shooters can register for one, two or all three shoots on ScoreChaser, so long as spaces remain available. To register your Sponsored Squad, call Dr. Bruce Evans at 303-803-4792.
The last day to take advantage of Early Bird discounts was March 31, 2025. This deadline applied to Individual Shooters and Sponsored Squads.
No; each shoot requires a separate registration.
Individual Shooters qualify for the Belt Buckle shoot-off with their best two event scores (best of 200 possible points), even if the individual shoots all three of the 100-target events.
Sponsored squads qualify for the Belt Buckle shoot-off based on their highest single event average score for their squad.
The Belt Buckle shoot-off is right after lunch on the same day as the 3rd shoot in the series on 9/20/25 at Kiowa Creek.
Shoots times are now at 9am, rain or shine, at each venue. In the event of severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances which cause the hosting club to cancel the event, registration fees will be refunded if the event cannot be rescheduled for the following day.
Yes; these shoots are now NSCA-registered events, (with class punches and NSCA points).
